Q. The game is
running VERY slowly
A.
There are several
things that can cause the game to run extremely slowly. The
biggest offender is Anti-Virus software, turn it all OFF.
Especially Norton's. If you do not want to turn it off
completely (though you should just go ahead and remove it,
these programs will NOT protect you in the long run and only
serve to give you a false sense of security) you will
need to disable checking for MDB files. The game
frequently accesses Microsoft Access database files. Since these
files can contain macros, a lot of anti-virus software goes nuts when
an executable attempts to access such files.
Q.
I get a 'No Current Record'
Error ( 3021 ) when I roll the dice
A.
This is a problem
with later versions of the JET database drivers. The fix is to be
sure the director is disabled when there are no items in the
director's list.
Q.
I get an 'Object required'
Main_Form_Form_Load error when I start the game.
A.
There a few things
that can cause this. It is most often cleared up by running regsvr32
(click START-RUN) then enter regsvr32 <space> then the path to the
file dao360.dll You may also try running regsvr32 <space> then
the path to Cast.DLL
For example
regsvr32
c:/windows/system32/dao360.dll
or
regsvr32
c:/windows/system32/cast.dll
of course the paths
may be different on your system.
Q.
How do I restart a game? The
save option only seems to save the game setup
A.
You can start the Game
Module (Game Module.exe) at anytime and it will automatically pick
up where it left off as long as the pass.gam file is still in the
4PLAY directory. This file is only deleted by the game if you shut
down the game and answer no to the question "do you wish to finish
this game later?"
Q.
I received my LIC file, what
now?
A.
Your LIC file was sent as a file attachment. All you
have to do is move this file into the 4PLAY directory replacing the
one that is already there.
Q.
You asked me to email you the
4PLAY GAM file in order to locate a bug. What is this file and where
do I find it?
A.
The GAM file is named pass.gam and is located in the
4PLAY directory. This file contains all of the information on the
players, money, property and so on during game play. This file is
constantly updated during game play so that if a bug causes the game
to crash you can just restart the game and it will pick up where it
left off. NOTE: if you answer no to whether or not you might like to
continue your game this file will be deleted.
Q.
My name appears as registered
on the splash screen when the program loads,
but I get the message EXPIRED shareware version on the setup screen.
I
have recopied the LIC file from my registration email, and get the
same
thing
A.
If you are running
5.0.21 or later you can use the 'Restore Shareware Information'
button then use your last name and serial ID to unlock the game.
Q.
I keep getting
'unable to locate suitable action' warnings
A.
First, be sure you
have the latest action card files - you can download them
here. Next, be sure you
turn on as many toys and options as possible. You may also try
raising the kinky level for some or all players. And most
importantly turn off the safe sex option.
Q. Cannot locate the
XXX Director Database
A.
The file
Directors_list.mdb which is the database the director's list is
stored in could not be found. This file should be located in the
4PLAY 5.0/Data/ directory. You can DL a default install version of
this file
here.
Q.
When I add new files to the XXX
Director I get 'This action cancelled by an associated object'
error
A.
This problem is related to path/filename combinations
longer than 50 characters, it is fixed by running any 5.0.21 install
published after 4-17-2006. Or by opening your Director's MDB file
and increasing the 'KEY' field to 255 char. If you still get this
problem, move your pics and movies closer to the root directory.
Q.
The
game board is too large for the monitor, and we cannot use the pop-ups to make changes to level, etc. How do
I make the
game board fit?
A.
4PLAY
5.0 requires at least 1024x768 (normal font in
XP). To change
your settings, right-click on the desktop then select properties
then settings. For more info
click
here.
Q. I get a 'Can't
Find Installable ISAM' error when I start the game
A.
Check the version
number on your MSVBVM60.dll file. This file is located in the
Windows System 32 directory. We are currently working on a fix so
please place an error report and include your version number. Here
is more info on this error:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;299457
Q.
I get the following error
when starting 4PLAY 5.0
Error number :
372 Failed to load control 'Inet' from MSINET.OCX. Your version
of MSINET.OCX
may be outdated. Make sure you are using the version of the
control that
was provided with your application.
A.
Here
is the problem - the install does not overwrite this file even
if it is old due to problems with doing so crashing some 98
systems. Here is the correct version of the OCX:
MSINET.OCX
Just copy this file into the Windows\System32 directory,
replacing the one there and any others on your system that might
also be registered.
This error can
also occur in other flavors of windows since the install does
not overwrite an older version so as not to trash anybody's Win
98 system.
Q.
I get the following error
when I start the game
Error_Report =
Error number : 91
Object variable
or With block variable not set
A.
Windows 98 users must
have the latest version of the JET database drivers installed.
to get them. Windows 2000 users can go
here. Windows Me
users
go here.
If you are a XP user you will most likely need to install the
latest
"Jet" Service Pack from Microsoft.
Remember, Microsoft sometimes changes these links so you may have to
search a little.
XP users can also
get this error when using Windows foreign language drivers.
Q.
I get the following error
when starting 4PLAY 5.0
Error_Report
= Error number : 372 Failed to load control 'WebBrowser' from shdocvw.dll. Your
version of shdocvw.dll may be outdated. Make sure you are
using the version of the control that was provided with your
application.
A.
This error stems
from having an old version of Internet Explorer, shdocvw.dll is
part of the IE 3.x core system. To resolove this problem you
must upgrade your IE install, go
here to get the upgrade.
Q. I get the following error:
'4play 50 has caused an error in MSDXM.OCX, 4play
50 will now close'
A.
This can be caused when you do not
have the correct combination of Microsoft Internet Explorer and
Media Player installed. Windows Media
Player 2 ActiveX Control (MSDXM.OCX) faults when Wininet.dll not
present.
The best
fix for this is to install the most recent version of both IE
and Media Player available for your favor of Windows.
Q. Why
do I have to go through all of this hassle with the LIC file
if I have bought the game?
A.
The
reality is that without use protection a few customers will
post the registered version of the game and there go our
sales. While we do sell quite a few copies we have to have
everyone to justify the thousands of hours that went into
programming this game. Plus, it is the principle of the thing
-
without protection people would have the same game that you paid
for without paying a dime.
Q. Will 4PLAY 5.0
work with Windows 98 or 98SE?
A.
The answer to that
is maybe. 4PLAY 5.0 was not developed with 98 in mind and was
not tested on a 98 system. But it will run, provided you have
the correct data drivers and
MSINET.OCX
installed. We will try and help you with whatever resources we
can provide regarding what files you need but keep in mind that
Win 98 is still firmly rooted in DLL Hell.
Q.
I get the following error
when starting 4PLAY 5.0
"4plygame has caused an error in
OPHOOK32.DLL"
A.
This issue can
occur if Caere OmniPage Pro v9.0 is installed on your computer.
For more information and a resolution to this issue, contact
ScanSoft at the following Web site:
http://www.scansoft.com/support
To temporarily work around this
issue, remove Caere OmniPage Pro from your computer. Ensure that
the following two files have been removed:
Ophook32.dll
Opshel32.dll
Q.
I am confused
by the Player's Advanced Options
A.
The advanced
options can be a bit complicated but some important things to
remember is that the various size options, with the exception of
bra size, are selected on a greater than or equal to basis. For
example, if an action card requires a large clit. Then a
player with large or huge could be selected. The
pain threshold also operates in this manner, so a card with a
pain threshold of "high" can be used with a player who
has "high" or "extreme" selected. The Bra Size and
Disposition options require an exact match in order for the card
to be used.
